It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend George Crouse. ATHS President from 2003-2005, George passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2020, at the age of 81. He is survived by his beloved wife, Dixie, and their three beautiful daughters, Renee, Jodi, and Julie. He is also survived by his brother, Ken Crouse, who is the ATHS Regional Vice President for Iowa.
George grew up in the trucking industry. His father, Paul Crouse, founded Crouse Cartage Co., in Denison, Iowa, in 1941. Throughout the years, George and his three brothers were drivers, dockmen, clerks, and supervisors in the family business. When their father passed away in 1987, George guided the company to a successful Midwest carrier with more than 1,100 employees. Crouse Cartage was sold in 1998, but George wasn’t done trucking. His keen business sense led him to establish Crouse Transportation, a very successful company in Denison, Iowa.
“George brought a realistic business sense to ATHS,” remarked Terry Klenske, ATHS Past President in 2006. “He understood what it was like to meet a payroll and deal with customers. George treated members of ATHS like they were his valued customers.” We will miss George’s professionalism, leadership, and support. But most of all, we will miss our friend.
